Lesson 1.2 Exponential Notation

Exponential Notation

Exponential notation is a way of expressing very large or very small numbers using powers of 10. It simplifies calculations and makes numbers easier to read and write.

a×10^n

  • is the coefficient, a number between 1 and 10.
  • is the exponent, which indicates how many times 10 is multiplied or divided.
    • If is positive, the number is large (shift decimal to the right).
    • If is negative, the number is small (shift decimal to the left).
